FOLLOW AND RECOGNIZE DIVINE PROMPTINGS

Each of us will experience the tender mercies of the Lord from time to time if we just try to keep His commandments and let humility, love and kindness guide our lives.

We Matter to our Heavenly Father

It may be true that man is nothing in comparison to the greatness of the universe. At times we may even feel insignificant, invisible, alone, or forgotten. But always remember, you matter to Him!  No matter where you live, no matter how humble your circumstances, how meager your employment, how limited your abilities, how ordinary your appearance, you are not invisible to your Heavenly Father. He loves you. He knows your humble heart and your acts of love and kindness. Together, they form a lasting testimony of your fidelity and faith in your Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ.

Promptings in Time of Need

Barbara Calmull relates her experience

“When our eldest son, Jason, was 11 years old, we had an experience we will never forget. It was Sunday, and as the rest of the family was preparing for church, Jason complained he was feeling ill. We decided to leave him home and promised we would telephone him later to see how he was doing. Our meetinghouse was not far away, and we could run home if he needed us.  Just before the meeting began, I felt prompted to call Jason right at that moment. The telephone rang many times, but Jason didn’t answer. I assumed he was sleeping and did not hear the phone. Yet a nagging feeling told me something was very wrong.  I left my other children in their seats and told them I would return in a few minutes.  The five-minute trip to our home seemed to take forever. Once there, I raced into the house, frantically calling Jason’s name. For what seemed like an eternity, there was no answer, and I could not find him. Finally, I heard soft crying as Jason cautiously crawled out from behind the couch in the family room. I put my arms around him and could feel him trembling as he related what had happened.

Feeling to Hide

“He had been lying on the couch when he had a feeling he should hide. He got up immediately and hid behind the couch. Just then, he heard someone come in the front door. Thinking it must be the family, he quietly peeked out from his hiding place. He was horrified to see an intruder, wearing a black ski mask and gloves, going through drawers. He listened as the stranger wandered throughout the house. At that point the phone began ringing, and the intruder left. Of course, the ringing phone had been my call just before I left the meetinghouse.  I will always be grateful for the promptings of the Holy Ghost that both Jason and I experienced that day. I am so grateful I was prompted to come home to be there when Jason needed me. Who knows what might have happened if Jason had been discovered by the intruder?”

Recognizing Promptings from the Spirit of the Lord

Divine guidance can come through a voice to our mind (the above experience is an example), while saying our prayers and through others influenced by the Spirit.  Primarily answers come through the “feelings of the heart”.   This is a witness to us that the Spirit of God is working with us.  When we feel inspiration through the Spirit we should follow the inspiration, treasure it, record it, and thank the Lord for it; and it will come again.

We each have a Spark of Divinity

Each of us have a spark of divinity in us as sons and daughters of God!   What a marvelous truth!

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…”    (Romans 8: 16-17 in the Bible)

God sees us not only as mortal beings on a small planet living for a brief season, He sees us as His children and wants us to know that we matter to Him.  The Lord wants to help us through the challenges of life, but we must believe, trust and align our lives with His commandments so that we open our door for His help and guidance.
