The nature, power and glory of God

It should fill our hearts and souls with great joy to think we are the children of the supreme creator of the universe including this beautiful planet we call earth! To add to our joy is the fact that He loves all of us as a father loves his children, except His love is perfect. This knowledge is breathtaking!

We are the Children of Almighty God

• Created in the Image of God

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1: 26-27 in the Bible)

• We are the Offspring of God

“Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.” (Acts 17: 29 in the Bible)

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…” (Romans 8: 16-17 in the Bible)

Knowing God

Knowing God is so important that the Savior Jesus Christ said, “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” (John 17: 3 in the Bible)

To know God, we need to understand that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are the great governing body of the universe or the Godhead as the apostle Paul said in the above scripture (John 17).

All three are referred to as one God because they are one in purpose and unity. The prayer of the Savior to His Father in behalf of His apostles and followers is one example.

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:” (John 17: 20-22 in the Bible)

“And now Father, I pray unto thee for them, and also for all those who shall believe on their words, that they may believe in me, that I may be in them as thou, Father, art in me, that we may be one.”

(3 Nephi 19: 23 p. 446 in the Book of Mormon)

Obviously, the Savior did not want His followers to become one physically, but one in love and unity as He is one with the Father and the Holy Ghost.

The Savior Jesus Christ Under the Direction of Heavenly Father Created the Earth

“IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1: 1-3, 14 in the Bible)

“Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name.” (3 Nephi 9: 15 p. 425 in the Book of Mormon)

The Lord said to Moses, “And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many. But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.” (Moses 1: 32-35 p. 4 in the Pearl of Great Price)
